Indian Creek Campus Expands

Indian Creek is expandingThe University of Kansas Hospital is expanding patient care facilities at its Indian Creek Campus in Overland Park. Construction of a new inpatient hospital is currently underway at I-435 and Nall Avenue. The $100 million building will connect to the existing Indian Creek surgical building and is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Once completed, the facility will offer additional surgical and inpatient services, with shell space to accommodate up to 17 more patient beds in the future. In addition to the many outpatient clinics currently located at Indian Creek Campus, the new hospital building will offer imaging services and amenities such as a cafeteria.

The new building will include:

  • More than 122,000 square feet of space
  • 18 patient rooms
  • 8 operating rooms
  • 24-bed prep/recovery area
  • 25 exam rooms
  • Imaging and breast imaging
  • Interventional radiology
  • Cafeteria for patients and staff

Ensuring access

Patient demand has fueled the success of existing surgical services at Indian Creek, including sports medicine, orthopedics, plastic surgery, urology, ear, nose and throat, and cancer surgery. Current services also include interventional radiology and pain management.

"Last year, one of every four patients was from outside the Kansas City metro area," said Bob Page, hospital president and chief executive officer.

"More and more patients are recognizing our expertise," he said. "Expansion at our Indian Creek Campus is one example of how we're trying to provide more access to complex academic medicine."

Nationally ranked

The main campus in Kansas City, Kansas, has 780 beds. It ranks among the nation's best 50 hospitals and is the area's top hospital by both revenue and admissions.

The new project is designed by Pulse Design Group. JE Dunn is the general contractor. Doug Weltner and Mark Sutherland are the master developers and owners of the site.
