The True Impact of Turning Point

When we welcome you to Turning Point, we're inviting you to live your life to the fullest – no matter your circumstances. Alongside a community of supportive people, you'll learn how to live better – even with the curveballs thrown at you by a serious or chronic physical illness.

This is what Turning Point is all about. We can't change a diagnosis, but we can help you change the way you respond to your illness or to a loved one's illness.

Since 2001, we have served more than 80,000 people of all ages in our community. That first year, we provided 60 programs to 653 people. Fifteen years later, in 2016, we offered 662 programs to 10,038 people.

Our research demonstrates that by learning the skills of resiliency – how to bend without breaking and then bounce back – people who participate in Turning Point's programs have significantly lowered their levels of anxiety, depression and general distress. This often translates into fewer hospital stays and doctor visits.

In fact, participants consistently report that by building resilience they are able to:

  • Think more clearly and concentrate more easily
  • Feel more in control of their lives
  • Feel more in charge of their emotions
  • Feel less critical of themselves and others
  • Find more meaning in their lives and their experiences
  • Become more optimistic and hopeful
  • Become more intuitive
  • Manage unexpected setbacks in a positive way

Many people tell us that even though they're now living with a serious or chronic physical illness, they have less anxiety or depression than before the diagnosis.

Reaching throughout the region

In addition to providing exponentially more programs to more people, we have developed innovative initiatives such as training healthcare professionals throughout the state of Kansas which enables them to teach resiliency to their patients.

We're also taking our most popular programs online, so they will be easily accessible for those who are homebound or live far away from Turning Point.

We will continue to look for opportunities to expand our services and you can help. If Turning Point has made a difference in your life or the life of a loved one, please consider sharing your story with us by emailing info@turningpointkc.org. You – and your stories – are the most effective way we have to communicate who we are and what we do. Thanks in advance for helping us spread the word!
